Training Camp Begins Today

SAINT JOHN – Here we go again.

The Saint John Sea Dogs kick off their 10th training camp this morning at Harbour Station. Like all the ones previous, the camp will feature new faces and old faces, battles for positions, and an early preview of what is to come this season and in the future.

It appears as though this year’s opening days of camp will be more interesting for fans than in the past. There will be two scrimmages on both Monday and Tuesday with the camp roster split in half to form teams. Assistant coaches Greg Leland and Jeff Cowan will each coach one team.

According to the team, “scrimmages consist of two thirty-minute periods played in stop-time, with a flood of the ice at halftime.”

Here is today’s schedule:

Monday, August 11th
10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. - Team Leland vs. Team Cowan
12:30 p.m. - Lunch for players
3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. - Team Leland vs. Team Cowan

Doors open at 8:00 a.m.

Training camp is open to the public. Lineup sheets are expected to be available at the rink. Players will once again have name bars on their jerseys, which is awesome.

Saint John’s first pre-season game is on Friday night at Harbour Station against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. Free tickets to the game can be picked up at the box office.
